Orbweb Spins Wake Over Wi-Fi on Realtek NIC
Palo Alto, CA, February 5, 2016 – Orbweb recently collaborated with Realtek to develop the new Remote Wake feature, Wake Over Wi-Fi, Wake On WAN through Wi-Fi. Orbweb has added new compatible Realtek NIC models which include 8111 FR/GR/H(S). One year ago, Orbweb brought Remote Wake technology to the market with Orbweb.me, which allowed the users to restart, put to sleep, shut down their PCs remotely outside the LAN environment. After collaborating closely with Realtek, the Wake Over Wi-Fi technology breaks the shackles of being tethered to an ethernet cable.
Remote Wake (Wake on WAN) has been one of the most popular features of the Orbweb.me app. Before, users could enjoy File Xplorer, Webcam Monitoring and Remote Desktop, now they can wake their sleeping PC using Remote Wake. According to the US Department of Energy, using the sleep feature can save users between USD$30-$50 per year or more in electricity costs. The introduction of Remote Wake as pertains to Wake Over Wi-Fi, paves the way for mobile users to conveniently access their PC without sacrificing energy efficiency.
In Orbweb’s future roadmap, more NICs are expected to be supported for Remote Wake. In addition, Orbweb is researching for more innovative applications in which this feature can be used in the PC industry. Orbweb’s CEO James Wei states that, “Orbweb is dedicated to working with more NIC manufacturers to make this feature available on all notebooks. Soon this technology will be ubiquitous and it will change people’s computing habits, and we are proud to play a role in helping to protect the environment.”
About Wake Over Wi-Fi
Orbweb has worked very closely with global NIC manufacturers to develop this Wake Over Wi-Fi technology. This close relationship has allowed Orbweb to port this technology to many NIC models. This will help make this feature a common standard in the industry. How does Wake Over Wi-Fi work? When your PC is put into “sleep” mode, it will continue to send a periodic signal to our backend service. This informs the backend server that your PC is “sleeping” and is ready to wake up at any time. When you want to wake up your PC, your mobile device will send a “wake up” signal to our backend server, and our server will send a message to your PC to wake up. Simple! Just like that.
